Setting Up

The LawnMaster® VBRM601YCM MAX robotic lawn mower is shipped completely assembled and requires no boundary wire or charging station installation.

Preparing the Mowing Area

1)Define the Lawn: Ensure your lawn is defined by flat borders like paving or raised edges (e.g., fences or shrubs higher than 25cm).

2)Clear Debris: Inspect the area and remove stones, sticks, wires, and other foreign objects that could damage the mower.

3)Pre-trim Grass: For best performance, mow or trim overgrown grass down to 60mm (2.36'') before the first use.

4)Define Visual Boundaries: Use the provided magnetic strips to define areas where natural boundaries are not present.

Installing the Battery Pack

1)Fully Charge: Ensure the 24V 8.0 Ah battery is fully charged before its first use.

2)Insert Battery: Lift the battery compartment cover and slide the battery pack along the support rails until it "clicks" into place.

3)Insert Safety Key: Place the safety key into the designated keyhole near the battery compartment; it only fits in one direction.

4)Power On: Press the START/ON button for 1 second and wait approximately 15 seconds for the camera system to initialize.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is essential to preserve cutting performance and ensure a long service life.

General Cleaning and Inspection

1)Cleaning: Keep the motor housing and safety devices free of dirt. Wipe the mower clean with a dry cloth; do not use water, as the product is not waterproof.

2)Clear Debris: Periodically check the wheels and blade disc for wrapped grass or debris and remove it to prevent the mower from getting stuck.

3)Check Fasteners: Regularly ensure all nuts, bolts, and screws are tight to keep the machine in a safe working condition.

Blade Maintenance and Replacement

1)Inspection: Visually inspect blades and bolts for wear or damage. Blunt or damaged blades should be replaced to maintain a neat lawn finish and prevent imbalance.

2)Replacement Safety: Before servicing the blades, always remove the safety key and the battery pack, and wear heavy protective gloves.

3)Set Replacement: Always replace all 3 blades and screws at the same time to preserve the balance of the cutting system.

Storage

Winter Storage: Always remove the battery pack before storing. Store the mower and battery in a dry, indoor location.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size yard is the OcuMow designed for?

OcuMow™ is designed for small yards less than 2,000 square feet in size.

How long will the OcuMow run?

The OcuMow mows up to 2,000 square feet or up to 6 hours, however, this may vary due to factors such as terrain, slopes, etc.

How does it work?

The OcuMow uses a camera combined with two ultrasonic sensors to navigate around your garden. The camera detects the difference between surface textures and colors, for example grass or paving, and the ultrasonic sensors detect obstacles higher than 6”, such as plants, garden furniture, walls and fences meaning there is no need for a boundary wire.

To keep the mower within the lawn area, your lawn must be bordered on all sides by a visually distinctive border. This can be a flat border of paving, gravel or wooden boards, or a raised edge such as border edging, walls or fences. The mower can detect some edges that are not distinctive however for best and correct operation making your borders clearly defined will improve edge detection and allow the robot to work correctly. Where a visually distinctive border is not available (e.g. on adjoining lawns), No Go Magnetic strip can be placed to form a virtual boundary which the mower cannot cross.

Do I have to install my OcuMow?

No – OcuMow is ready to go out of the box! There is no need for an outdoor power socket or app setup. Simply set the mower on an appropriately sized lawn, push the start button, and let it get to work.

Will the OcuMow stay in the yard?

A clearly defined edge around the full perimeter of your lawn, such as paving or gravel, or a raised edge at least 2.3-inches high is required to prevent the mower leaving the grass. The OcuMow also comes with 49-feet of magnetic strips that can be used to create a virtual fence within your yard. Set up is easy with no power source or digging required and prevents the robot mower from entering any forbidden areas.

Why are there such specific lawn border requirements?

If the mower cannot recognize a clearly defined lawn edge, it may not stay within the lawn area. Bare earth borders which can become weedy, or flower borders with low plants can be interpreted as grass by the Optical Grass Recognition (OGR) software. For this reason, we recommend that either raised edges, a hard border of paving, No Go magnetic strip, or walls and fences are the best options around the lawn.

Does the OcuMow cut in a pattern?

Our robot mower uses a random cutting pattern to ultimately leave your yard completely even.

Will the OcuMow mow a steep hill?

OcuMow is capable of handling inclines of up to 35% (19° slope).

How does the OcuMow handle obstacles?

Our robot mower uses sensors and a wide angle, high range camera to detect obstacles and automatically re-direct the mower to avoid obstacles as small as 6-inches.

Will the OcuMow cut up to edges?

The mower stops approximately 10 - 20cm away from the edge of the lawn, meaning some grass will remain uncut. This can easily be taken care of with a grass trimmer. Lawn edges should be kept neatly trimmed so that the OcuMow can easily see the edge of the lawn.

Can the OcuMow be used in the rain?

OcuMow is rated IPX4 weather resistant and is not recommended to mow while raining.

Can the mower be used at night?

The OcuMow™ requires good light in order for the camera to function, therefore, this mower should only be used in the daytime. The robot will not operate outside daylight hours.

What happens to the grass clippings?

The grass is cut using three small sharp blades and the clippings are returned to the lawn surface where the nutrients contained in them fertilize the soil. This means stronger, healthier grass with less need for supplemental fertilizer and has the added bonus of helping the lawn retain water in dry periods. It also means no grass clippings to dispose of or compost. Provided that the OcuMow is used regularly (i.e., once or twice a week) the clippings are not visible to the eye.

Is it safe to use around pets and children?

The OcuMow has a safety key which can be removed to prevent children starting the mower unsupervised. Safety sensors stop the blades if the mower is lifted or flips over. The mower is also equipped with ultrasonic sensors which will avoid obstacles higher than 6”. We recommend that children and pets are not left unsupervised with the mower while it is operating.

Can this mower be used in a garden with a pond?

It is possible to use the OcuMow on lawns with a pond, however it is strongly recommended that the pond is surrounded by a raised barrier to safeguard against the mower falling in. We recommend either a raised edge or a paved border at least 3 feet wide surrounding the pond. Water damaged mowers are not covered under guarantee.
